Nursing Maths Formula Sheet for Fictional Practice
A formula sheet is most useful when each relationship is connected to its units and limitations. This page summarises the arithmetic used by DosePractice and links to worked fictional examples.
Use fictional or tutor-provided values only. These pages explain arithmetic and do not select, recommend, verify or administer treatment. Do not enter patient information or use DosePractice in a clinical workflow.
Conversions
- 1 g = 1,000 mg
- 1 mg = 1,000 micrograms
- 1 L = 1,000 mL
- minutes ÷ 60 = decimal hours
- hours × 60 = minutes
Dose and volume
- volume = (required amount ÷ stock amount) × stock volume
- amount = weight × amount per kilogram
- tablets = required amount ÷ amount per tablet
Volume, rate and time
- rate = volume ÷ time
- time = volume ÷ rate
- volume = rate × time
Manual drops
drops per minute = (volume in mL × stated drop factor in gtt/mL) ÷ time in minutes. The arithmetic result does not choose or verify real equipment.
Use the units as a check
Convert values into compatible units first, follow which units cancel and verify that the final unit matches what the question asks for.
