How to Rearrange Medication Maths Formulas
Several calculation topics use the same three quantities in different positions. Understanding the relationship is more reliable than memorising unrelated formulas.

Volume, rate and time
Volume equals rate multiplied by time. From that relationship, rate equals volume divided by time, and time equals volume divided by rate.
Cover the quantity you need
A formula triangle can be a memory aid: place volume at the top, with rate and time below. Covering volume leaves rate × time; covering rate leaves volume ÷ time; covering time leaves volume ÷ rate.
Check by substitution
If 500 mL divided by 125 mL/hour gives 4 hours, substitute back: 125 mL/hour × 4 hours = 500 mL. The hour unit cancels and the original volume returns.
Dose-to-volume is a ratio
The required amount divided by the stock amount gives the fraction of the stock presentation needed. Multiplying that fraction by the stock volume produces the fictional volume.
Do not rearrange by moving symbols without meaning
Keep the unit trail visible. The aim is not to move numbers mechanically but to preserve an equality that produces the requested unit.
